Park Chu-young Sends Monaco to Win Over Lyon

Park Chu-young of AS Monaco is continuing to lead his team’s ascendancy in France.

The 25-year-old striker notched the game - winning header against Olympique Lyonnais in a 2-1 victory in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France, Monday (KST) at the Stade Louis II Stadium.

Monaco has advanced to the round of 16. With the goal, Park now has seven goals and three assists in all competitions this season.

Monaco gave up the game’s first goal in the 44th minute, when French defender Jean- Alain Boumsong scored for Lyon.

But Monaco equalized five minutes into the second half with a goal from Brazilian forward Nene.

Monaco then took the lead in the 78th minute. Francois Modesto crossed the ball from the right corner, sending a high lob into the center of the penalty area that Lyon and French international goalie Hugo Lloris and defender Cris couldn’t clear. Park was well-positioned and dove toward the ball, sending it into the back of the net.

Monaco will next meet Ligue 1 leader FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the round of 16, at Chaban Delmas Stadium.
